May Volleyball Camp Huge Success

servingLevel 1 & 2 Camp, held May 3rd and 4th, was a great success!  Coach Heather Clifton focused on the fundamentals of passing and serving, and many of the girls saw huge improvements in their skills.  Campers worked on keeping things clean and simple, being aggressive, and communicating with each other.  There were many different skills levels present, but each camper was able to learn  and grow.  All the campers appreciated what Coach Heather was able to teach them.  Assistants Molly Farrington (from FSU), Kirstin Gebert, Anna Helfrich, and Sarah Thomas were also on hand to help out.

Our camp focus was on Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."  We stressed the importance of using the gifts and talents God has given us (our light) to shine on our teammates. Each member of a team

group

should work hard to make their teammates shine! Campers put it into practice at the end of camp Friday as they worked together during "Queen of the Court".

The Crusader's Middle School squad looks to be AMAZING this season!  Can't wait to see them shine!

Advanced Volleyball Camp

Coach Leo SaylesFocus and speed.  These were the emphasis of the Intermediate & Advanced volleyball camp coached by Coach Leo Sayles of Gardner-Webb University on June 14-16.

Coach Sayles confirmed in several challenging techniques and drills that mastering these fundamentals will completely improve your skill and game speed.  All of the drills involved lots of movement and thinking - the girls were even able to get 4 volleyballs going at once in the Team Juggling Drill.Team Juggling

Players of all levels learned something from the camp whether it was volleyball skill or a spiritual awareness from Coach Sayles. He explained that many scriptures could be applied to the way an athlete plays a game as well as how a team could work together. He challenged campers to play as Christian athletes, not just athletes who are Christians.  The girls learned to leave it all on the court - No Reserve, No Retreat, No Regrets.

All campers greatly appreciated Coach Sayles coming to coach them. Many Crusader athletes now have Gardner-Webb on their college list!  Campers also would like to thank Coach Sally, Coach Diane, Coach Darrell, Coach Julie, Coach Joy, Coach Molly, and Coach Anji for volunteering their time to help out.
